Celebrating Veteran’s Day at Watch Communications

This Veteran’s Day, Watch Communications is spotlighting Robert Moore, the company’s Director of Network Planning and PM Project Management. Let’s look closer at Robert’s military career and how those experiences have contributed valuable contributions to Watch.

Watch: Which branch of service did you serve in?

Robert: I served in the U.S. Army.

Watch: Where were you stationed?

Robert: I spent four years at Ft Bliss in El Paso, Texas, one year at Ft Gordon in Augusta, Georgia, four years at Landstuhl, Germany, and four years at Wheeler Army Airfield in Oahu, Hawaii.

Watch: What were some of the reasons that you joined the military?

Robert: I felt I needed discipline, direction, and a path to a career.

Watch: Why did you pick the service branch you joined?

Robert: The first door in the line of recruiters was the U.S. Air Force, who told me I could only join them with my high school diploma. The next door in line was the U.S. Army, and they were more than happy to take a recruit who could walk and chew gum at the same time.

Watch: What significant challenges did you face during your service?

Robert: There were many challenges, too numerous to recount, but among the top would be Basic Combat Training, having to relocate my family every four years or less, and frequent separations from my family. I missed every first for my children—first step, first word, first tooth lost, etc.

Watch: Tell me a couple of your most memorable experiences.

Robert: Again, there are too many to list, but a few are restoring communications to the U.S. embassy in the Philippines after the Mount Pinatubo eruption and planning all satellite communications for deployed forces during Desert Storm. I also have some very funny anecdotes from my time if you would like to hear one or two.

Watch: How does your military experience translate to the skills required to be a Director of Project Planning?

Robert: I excel at team building within my group, recognizing skills and abilities, and applying them for the best team performance. My ability to operate under stress and critical thinking skills enable me to bring order to chaos when everything is going wrong. The technical skills that I learned in the Army have been key to my career.

Watch: Thank you for your service, Robert. We appreciate the opportunity to delve into your journey in the military and learn more about you.

Today, we extend our heartfelt thanks to all the veterans who have served with courage and commitment. Your sacrifices have not gone unnoticed, and we are forever grateful for your service. Thank you for protecting our freedom!
